In-Person Classes in Vancouver!
The Andi Matheny Acting Studios started in 2010 and for the last 15+ years has started the careers of hundreds of actors. Recent bookings include Law & Order, recurring roles on The Righteous Gemstones, Tulsa King, Bad Monkey, and the new Peacock streaming show M.I.A.
Andi's classes have spanned the Southeastern US including Atlanta and Florida, as well as New York and Los Angeles. Now Andi makes her residence in British Columbia and is offering in-person classes in Vancouver!
Every session is tailored to the students' needs. Here's a sample of what you can expect:
- A fun improvisation warm-up.
- Exercises that will get you out of a rut and accelerate your ability to connect to all types of scripts, ranging from deeply emotional to light-hearted comedy.
- Specific techniques to make your scene work more dynamic and grounded in the organic, truthful style of acting on TV and film.
- Emphasis on different genres of TV and film and how to adjust your auditions to fit the tone of the show.
- Learning the importance of scene analysis and how it can make or break an audition.
- Personalized direction that zeroes in on your casting type and improves your chances of booking work.
- Occasional on-camera audition tips and self-tape practice.

Get to know me...
I'm Andi Matheny. I've been acting for almost 30 years, and I've been lucky to make my living doing it. I've worked with lots of well-known names, including: Kelsey Grammer, Ryan Phillippe, Patrick Duffy, Justin Long, Sara Rue, Salma Hayek, and Tony Shalhoub. I've done a little and a lot of everything: appearances on TV and film (recent credits include Doom Patrol, the recurring role of Dr. Kelly Whitley on The Resident, a supporting lead in the Hallmark Movie True Love Blooms,) commercials, voiceovers, video game animation. I even hosted TV shows for a while. I made it my goal to be a working actor, and now as a teacher, it's my passion to help other actors achieve that goal.
I also struggled as a young actor in acting classes, studying with some of the best coaches in Hollywood. I always felt there was a gap between WHAT I was being told to do, but no clear path as to HOW to achieve the direction I was given.
My journey as a teacher has been to fill that gap. My exercises and coaching style give you a clear path to implement the notes and direction you're given so that you can take your acting to the next level quickly. Which takes us to...

In the ongoing classes we will focus on a broad range of tools for a working actor, including:
- Scene study with exercises that deepen your emotional connection and understanding of the material
- Exploration of genres and adapting the tone of acting to fit the genre
- Focus on shows in local production, like Animal Control (Director/Producer Clark Mathis was a former Industry Pro guest on Zoom)
- Improvisation games and warm-ups to create spontaneity - and have fun!
- Discussions of the acting industry and how to take your career to the next level
- Guidance on how to create content for casting websites and other media that shows you off at your best
- Self-tape auditions drills and demos
- Gentle guidance to US English dialect, if needed
